DERUM studio is based in Sydney, Australia and is run by designer, ceramicist and all round earth mover, Melissa Derum. All of the studio's works are made on site in our little studio using wheel throwing and hand building techniques.
At the heart of the studio's ethos is to make beautiful, functional objects that become part of your everyday life and ritual - bringing delight and pleasure in sight, touch and use.
Having worked for many years as an Architect, Melissa's work, methodologies and approach is influenced by her passion of the built environment and people's relationship to their surroundings and spaces they inhabit. Melissa also sites her childhood growing up in Japan and the combination of cultures she experienced in her formative years as having a strong influence on her aesthetic and her life long passion for clay.
